HOLLOWAYS BEACH ESPLANADE RESERVE

Public BBQ

This tropical reserve has bounced back impressively from cyclone damage, featuring newly built breakwaters and restored shoreline. The expansive esplanade stretches along clean, flat sand with covered barbecue stations, shaded tables, and a substantial playground. Monthly markets from January through early December bring handmade goods, fresh donuts, and welcoming stallholders. The swimming beach operates with safety nets and lifesaver patrols, though moderate stinger risk and occasional crocodile sightings come with Far North Queensland territory. Dogs enjoy designated off-leash zones while fitness equipment caters to active types. Saturday afternoons feature complimentary live music at the beachside bar, creating relaxed vibes for sunset barbecues. Walking paths alternate between sealed sections and sand, winding through shady casuarina trees where friendly locals gather. Shallow waters suit young children, though muddy bottoms near river outlets lack appeal. Ocean breezes and spacious grounds deliver quintessentially laid-back North Queensland beach life.
